Public Outreach

Labwork

The goal of the public outreach initiative is to educate and involve members of the community (students and homeowners) in the water quality restoration project in order to increase their interest in water quality problems in retention ponds and the human impact on environmental health.

Activities

  1. Students and homeowners will be trained and/or introduced to different laboratory techniques to measure water quality conditions including:
    • physical parameters (temperature, dissolved oxygen and other)
    • fecal coliform bacteria culture (water filtration and colony counts)
    • algal community identification and cell counts
  2. Involvement in vegetative buffer installation
  3. Measurement of effectiveness of management application (practices changes and buffer installation)
